Ready or not, The One Room Challenge Finale is here!!!!
Oh what an adventure it has been! All I can say is we LOVE our new sun room and we LOVE the challenge it has been to try and get it done in 7 weeks (thanks to the 1 week extension beyond the usual 6).
A HUGE thank you and *hug* to Linda at Calling It Home for hosting the One Room Challenge Event. It’s such a fun and special way to connect with other bloggers, and I’ve really enjoyed participating over the past couple years!
We still have just a few small finishing touches in this room, but we are so very far from where we started! So without further adieu…
Let me remind you of what our sun room looked like at the beginning of this challenge, dark wood walls, concrete floor, good bones but no character…
Our plan for this room started out simple. A coat of paint, a stenciled floor and some new curtains. But along the way, we realized we needed to go big or go home.
These two sliding glass doors that led from our house out into the room were a major buzz kill. Not only were they terrible to look at but they really closed off the room from the rest of our house, there was no flow.
So in a moment of clarity we knew we had to take out those doors!
And we went from this…
It’s OPEN!!! And it’s amazing how much bigger the room feels without those doors.
We also decided to widen the doorway a little to allow for even greater open concept into the kitchen.
Now as you probably noticed we are not quite finished. The door ways still need to be either painted or stained. I’ll use this opportunity to get the opinions of all you amazing designers?
To paint or to stain?
I am kind of loving the natural wood element they add to the room, but simple white paint would be so crisp and clean. All opinions welcome!
We also have a bar cart area now, cocktails anyone?!
This room is the perfect place to linger with a glass of wine or a nibble when company is over.
I also included this seating area in the room, the perfect spot for a long Sunday brunch.
And the perfect place to display my DIY wedding table number! : )
The original idea behind updating this room, was to use it partially as an art studio.
Just look at all that amazing light pouring in!
With the art studio idea, also came a need for supply storage. We added a little chicken wire door frame to the front of an old dresser for the perfect art cabinet. I love that it has a door, but you can also still see all those brushes and paints on display.
And some custom art, which again was the reason and inspiration for the entire room. This is from my new Etsy shop, and the room will be used as my new studio for creating custom artwork and signs!
So excited for all the new opportunity and inspiration this beautiful room will bring!
Thank you so very much for stopping by! Be sure to follow the blog to see all the updates to the finishing touches in the sun room, and the rest of the house!
